The Watchtower, ““Seek Peace and Pursue It””

15 July 1983 · pp.24-25 · pars. 11, 16 · Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society

“The Scriptures, backed up by the modern-day experience of Jehovah’s Witnesses, make it plain that it is inadvisable for individual Christians to carry, or have in their possession at home or in other locations, a firearm or other lethal weapon for use against human attackers or intruders. … Anyone who thus continues to carry personal arms or otherwise equips himself to become “a smiter” would cease to qualify for special privileges in the congregation.”

The article deals with firearms, the martial arts and armed employment. It says ‘most of Jehovah’s Witnesses avoid such employment’ but treats the employment question itself as a personal decision.

The Watchtower, “Questions From Readers”

1 November 2005 · p.31 · Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society

“However, certain forms of employment are in clear violation of Bible principles and should be avoided. These include employment connected with gambling, the misuse of blood, and the promoting of tobacco products.”

The question is whether a Christian may accept employment that involves being armed. The answer says armed work is a personal decision but lists three kinds of work that remain prohibited outright.
